Exotic hunting and Tomohon market

The Minahasans in North Sulawesi are known for their exotic food culture. On our journey there, we set out in search of the infamous Tomohon Extreme Market, where we met vendors hawking various exotic meats such as bats, rats, pythons and more!

We also got the opportunity to join a family on their nighttime hunt for bats and rats, and enjoyed the catch prepared in authentic Indonesian style. In a region caught between their past traditions and current conventions, we also visited Animal Friends Manado Indonesia to understand more about the animal welfare work that they do.
